Following Relab's success in the industry segment of Trade, Construction and Retail, the Australian Reinforcing Company (ARC) reached out to our UX Design team to assist with the facilitation of User Research, Prototyping and UI/UX Design Strategy. Upon preliminary discussions around the needs and requirements, it was obvious that the GV Design Sprint process was perfect for the business case.

Upon preliminary discussions around the needs and requirements, it was obvious that the GV Design Sprint process was perfect for the business case.

ARC is one of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of steel reinforcing products with facilities throughout Australia, supported by a comprehensive network of retail and service outlets in both metropolitan and regional locations.

To support one of the business’ key strategic goals in revolutionising its offering and value for the residential market (builders and concreters), we assisted ARC explore mobile app product development ideas to build alignment across business stakeholders and clarify user/customer needs. Through the 5-Day Design Sprint process, we were able to clearly frame the business challenge, increase stakeholder visibility & buy in, increase team productivity and focus on what matters the most – the customers. All these were completed only within a short 5 days period.

The first day of the process took the team through a series of exercises all focusing on mapping the problem and deciding on the key focus of the Sprint. On day two, the team brainstormed and came up with lo-fi idea sketches. Day three was a decision making day, where the team and stakeholders voted for a winning idea, which lead to day four - the prototyping day. We created a mobile app ‘facade’ that is real enough to test the idea in day 5, where we invited ARC’s target customers to give us feedback and validate the business’ ideas. The process was intense, extremely productive and insightful.

At the end of the session, as a business ARC saw invaluable outcomes such as:

  • Budget risk mitigation and financial savings without having to invest on the
    risky technical build stage too early
  • Opportunity to rethink and iterate business ideas or process so they fit the needs
    of both customers and business stakeholders better
  • Real customer feedback that is gathered early in the product design &
    development stage
  • Clear and objective intent for the next step actions, informed NOT by assumptions, but through real live user feedback
